The Marshall County Museum’s elevator could soon be getting an upgrade. Maintenance Director Doug Masterson told the county council earlier this month that efforts were underway to get it back up and running.
“Twelve years ago, they replaced the ram in it. It was leaky,” he explained. “But they never updated the controls. So they literally have to make a motherboard for it right now to get it going, especially with handicapped people coming into the museum, trying to get it going.”
But he said it’s also time for more extensive upgrades to the controls. “It’s just so antiquated that they took me down there and it looks like the back of a TV from 1940,” Masterson said. “It’s old.”
He’d planned to ask for about $110,000 for the upgrades in next year’s budget, but the county commissioners wanted to get going now, since the parts may not arrive until November, anyway.
The council agreed to support a request to move forward with the repairs now. A formal additional appropriation out of this year’s budget will likely be considered in an upcoming meeting.
