Quicker upload and download speeds will be available to Bourbon residents in the coming months. Bill Haughee with Surf Broadband made the announcement Wednesday afternoon where broadband services with 100 megabit upload and download speeds will be available this year to Bourbon residents and businesses, and the Triton schools.
It is the result of a partnership with Surf Broadband, Town of Bourbon, Triton Community Schools and the Harmony Marketing Group.
Bourbon Town Council President Ward Byers said it was a historic day in Bourbon.
“What it really says today is that Bourbon is putting in infrastructure that will carry us for decades,” commented Byers. “We will have that infrastructure in place not only to serve those who currently work and call Bourbon home and have their businesses here, but we’re also going to be able to attract new housing starts and new business and industry. I think this partnership is vital to Bourbon’s future. I think the one message that we want to send out to the community and to Marshall County and to the State of Indiana today is Bourbon is now open for business. Come to Bourbon. We want you here.”
Triton Community School Superintendent Jeremy Riffle stated it was a big step after several years of planning.
Riffle said, “Our Triton scholars going through COVID – there were so many challenges that that brought. This is going to allow an opportunity if and when we ever have to go there again, and we hope we don’t, but it’s going to allow the opportunity to make sure that our education is a little bit more equitable than maybe it was even just a year-and-a-half ago. We want this for our community, we want this for our kids and we want this for economic growth.”
The installation of the broadband infrastructure will begin now and it is expected to be complete in a few weeks. Those wanting to sign up now can visit www.iwantfiber.today.
Additionally, Bill Haughee presented the town with a check in the amount of $2,760 to put toward the town’s Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places crowdfunding grant for a new sports court that will include new basketball, pickleball and shuffleboard courts.
