Marshall County Coroner John Grolich asked the commissioners Monday morning to hire an administrative assistant in 2022.
He said his office may handle 200 deaths this year and it is difficult to keep up with the task of completing paperwork. He commented that the autopsy budget is already exhausted.
It would be a part-time position just to type up cases and help with other duties in the office.
Commission President Kevin Overmyer suggested hiring a part-time person now on a contract to help with paperwork. It would be for about 20 to 25 hours a week. The commissioners supported that effort.
The commissioners recommended that Grolich take the request to the Marshall County Council for approval. The recommendation was approved by the commissioners. The pay is expected to be considered in the coroner’s budget in 2022.
Meanwhile, Grolich said the construction on the morgue is just about complete. The negative pressure equipment will soon be ready to be installed in the autopsy suite, and furnishings have arrived. He said autopsies are currently being done in the morgue.
