The Marshall County Commissioners considered a contract with Baker Tilly Monday morning to assist government officials with navigation surrounding the planning and spending of American Rescue Act funds.
The commissioners plan to pay for the contract out of the professional services line item in their budget.
The county will be receiving two American Rescue Act funding distributions totaling $8,971,000. The county has until December 31, 2024 to spend the money. Whatever money is not spent will be returned to the U.S. Department of Treasury.
The commissioners have previously expressed interest in working with all of the municipalities in the county to best utilize all funds for eligible projects. They have previously discussed the construction of sewer districts in unincorporated areas in the county where septic systems are failing, typically surrounding the lake communities. Ken Jones from Jones, Petrie and Rafinski is anticipated to present preliminary study information in an upcoming commissioners meeting.
Commission President Kevin Overmyer said Monday morning that early discussions have indicated it will take some time to determine the needs of the county with potential projects. County officials will take time to make a plan to do what projects will benefit Marshall County.
