The Argos Redevelopment Commission members will soon take public comments on a proposed single-family residential housing development program in a subdivision off of South Kenilworth in Argos.
Preliminary plans include the construction of 32 houses on 20 acres in that area near the Sequel Wire company. A rezoning of that land to R2 is expected to be considered soon and the public hearing will gather comments on making it a Tax Increment Finance area, which would make it the fourth TIF District in Argos.
The town is working with Baker Tilly and ICE Miller to work through the paperwork to pave the way for more housing for Argos as it continues to grow. Utility Superintendent Jamie Lindstrom is working on sewer and water infrastructure plans with the hopes of beginning the project yet this year.
During a recent Argos Town Council workshop, Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney told the town council members that they will need to figure out how to fund the infrastructure. It will either be through a bond or a loan, but they seemed to lean toward loaning the money to the Argos Redevelopment Commission from the Electric Fund. A decision on that is expected to come soon.
The public hearing on the TIF is planned for April 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Argos Town Hall, 20 W. Walnut Street. All affected neighborhood associations, taxing units and residents are invited to attend.
