Meeting Set to Discuss Marshall County’s EMS Services

The Marshall County Commissioners will be meeting with several members from government entities May 13 to discuss EMS services in the county.

Commission President Kevin Overmyer explained during the commissioners meeting Monday morning that municipal EMS directors are struggling very hard to find paramedics and EMTs to fill open positions and funding to purchase new ambulances and update life saving equipment.

Overmyer stated, “I know there are other counties, I think Starke County and Pulaski County, have countywide EMS and I think we’re just getting to that point where we may have to start considering something on this basis.”

The commissioners plan to invite Sheriff Matt Hassel, all EMS directors, township trustees, Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter, and town and city council members to this meeting to start discussions.

Sheriff Hassel said it would be a good start.

“Like Kevin said it’s worth exploring to see if we could all put our heads together and make something work more efficiently and effectively,” commented Sheriff Hassel.

The meeting will be Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. ET in the second floor meeting room in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
