A contract was approved by the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning in order to begin an extensive renovation at the Marshall County Courthouse.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger presented the contract and said a few items need to be adjusted in the contract, but it is ready for approval, provided those contract items are finalized. The commissioners approved the contract with Midwest Maintenance, Inc. out of Piqua, Ohio. The contract sum, including alternates, is $1,496,935.
The commissioners hope to demolish the old Doug Hite building across the street from the courthouse for parking. If the structure can be demolished soon, the construction company could stage equipment in that area. The commissioners authorized Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Director Doug Masterson to get proposals for that work.
Work at the courthouse will include rehabilitation of the courthouse clock tower. Other work would remove existing storm windows and replace them with new storm windows at the courthouse, paint architectural elements like soffits and fascia, remove and install new joint sealants around windows and doors, remove existing sealant and install new joints around the column bases, repair existing limestone and masonry cleaning, and replace existing internal thermal windows.
Work is expected to start in May with a tentative completion date around October 27 of this year.
