John Glenn School Board Approves Purchase of New Computers

Students at the John Glenn School Corporation will have new Chromebooks to start the 2021-2022 school year.

Superintendent Christopher Winchell told the John Glenn School Board members last week that 1,150 new Chromebooks will be purchased for students in grades 3-12.  The $368,000 cost from Trafera will come from the 2019 General Obligation Bond as responsible bids from other projects have allowed this purchase with bond money.

Seniors may purchase the old computers if they so choose, but many of them could potentially be sold for resale to other companies.

In addition to the purchase of the Chromebooks, John Glenn IT Director Andrew Stegemiller requested the purchase of 90 iPad Airs at a cost of $29,605.50.  They will replace iPads that are seven years old.  Stegemiller noted that the older computers will not be able to run some of the required standardized testing apps in the fall.  These computers will also be paid for out of the General Obligation Bond.

The school board approved both purchases with a unanimous vote.
