Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters asked the commissioners last week to support a request to the Marshall County Council to appropriate funds for bridge preventative maintenance.
Peters explained that a fund was set up in 2018 with Rainy Day Funds after the floods to take care of some larger bridge issues. The bids for the scouring work came in under budget and about $250,000 will be left in that fund when the scouring work is complete. The money would extend maintenance to the county’s 59 timber bridges and to the county’s concrete bridges. Work includes washing debris off decks, washing open drains, redoing joints, overlays and sealants, treating bad spots, and clearing vegetation off timber bridges.
In all, there are 117 bridges and 50 small structures in Marshall County.
The commissioners approved the support of using $250,000 for preventative maintenance of the bridges.
