Culver Town Council Reviews Farmers’ Market Permit

The Culver Town Council took time last week to review the Culver Farmers’ Market application.

The permit included the dates and times of the Culver Farmers’ Market, along with rules for vendors, the application process and vendor eligibility, liability, and a list of non-profit organizations and organizational booths.

Councilman Bill Cleavenger questioned the non-profit organizations and organizational booths.  It was clarified that the Farmers’ Market only hosts booths for fundraising or information for non-profit organizations.  An event requested during an upcoming Farmers’ Market date will need to go before the Culver Town Council with a special event permit request.

Other for-profit vendors pay a fee to be at the Farmers’ Market to sell merchandise such as produce, homemade wares, food, or other items.

Last year’s social justice event put together by the schools was questioned where it was noted that the organization was at a Farmers’ Market event to promote an event that was to be held later.  Evan Dutmer, an organizer of the event, said they were invited to the Farmers’ Market to help promote the event, but an actual event was not held at that time.

In the end, the Culver Town Council members approved the Culver Farmers’ Market event request and the list of non-profit organizations with a 4-1 vote with Bill Cleavenger opposed to the motion.
