Bremen Downtown Traffic Light Project at a Stop

The traffic light installation process in Bremen is at a stop until the system can be rewired.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy told the Bremen Town Council this week another team needs to rewire the traffic lights as it was not done properly the first time.  Weldy said Plymouth Street will not be shut down again as crews can swing the arms around to complete the work. However, Center Street may need to be closed during this process.  The timing box will then be installed and the project can be done.

Meanwhile, the next Stellar project in Bremen is in the works.  The project includes a flex street on South Jackson Street that can be utilized for a host of events including a pavilion and parking, a gathering space, expanding sidewalks and curbs with more pedestrian space, lighting, parking, and renovating alleys with lighting and art to make them a more friendly space.  The project may also include charging stations for electric cars, but that is still in the discussion stages.

The Bremen Town Council members recently approved documents that moves the Jackson Street revitalization project to the design and construction phase.  Surveying and engineering phases will follow before the project is let for bid in April or May with construction starting in July or August.

The project is anticipated to be funded by INDOT through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and match money provided by the town.
