Marshall County Council Considers Additional Appropriations Requests

The Marshall County Council members considered additional appropriation requests last week for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department budget and the Marshall County Community Corrections budget.

Sheriff Matt Hassel explained that the LIT Special Purpose line items were not funded for 2021.

Hassel stated, “If you see Wages Overtime, Wages Turnkey/Dispatcher Part-Time, Office Supplies, and Janitorial Supplies, basically those were wiped out of the Jail General Fund and I was told to put them in the Local Income Tax Fund under LIT Special Purpose.”

Council member Steve Harper explained that the budget was published and the council could not make any increases to the budget after publication.  Therefore, the funds were reduced to zero so an additional appropriation could be made at the beginning of the year.

Additional appropriations were requested in Wages Overtime for $20,000, Wages Turnkey/Dispatcher part-time in the amount of $10,000, Office Supplies for $8,000, Janitorial Supplies for $35,000, Prisoner Supplies for $30,000, and Equipment/Maintenance Contracts for $33,000.

The council members also approved an additional appropriation request for Marshall County Community Corrections in the amount of $60,000 for Supplies and $43,266.50 for Contractual Services.  This is permission to spend CARES Act funding for the Marshall County Community Resources Grant and for PPE for law enforcement for all of Marshall County.
