The third Marshall County Superior Court will soon have a judge to preside over cases.
Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the county commissioners this week that a representative in Governor Holcomb’s office will post a notice for applications for the position starting in mid-February.
“The process normally takes about 90 days,” said Clevenger. “They’re a little concerned about that given the long legislative session and some of the things that are on that agenda. The governor plans to make an appointment well ahead of the July 1 opening date to give the new judge time to plan, organize and arrange that.”
After Governor Holcomb initially appoints the judge, he or she will be decided by Marshall County residents on the ballot in elections in the future.
The idea behind the third Marshall County Superior Court is to expedite cases to help in the reduction of the Marshall County Jail population. Statistics shared in previous meetings show that many inmates currently incarcerated in the jail are waiting for the resolution of their cases through the judicial system.
Marshall County Superior Court 3 will be located in the Marshall County Courthouse in the space previously occupied by Marshall County Community Corrections.
