Marshall County EMA Director to Apply for Coronavirus Relief Fund Safety Awareness Program Grant

Marshall County EMA Director Clyde Avery was given permission by the commissioners Monday to apply for a Coronavirus Relief Fund Safety Awareness Program Grant.

Avery explained that he will be seeking $165,050.60 which supplements the $1.5 million in CARES Act funding the county previously received.

“This particular batch of funding is geared toward enforcement and education of the governor’s mask order and it also supports our local ordinance,” stated Avery.

The county’s mask ordinance mirrors guidance from the governor.

Avery added that it is a reimbursable grant and it has a short turnaround so he and the Marshall County Health Department have projects ready to go if the application is approved.  They have reached out to video companies and billboard companies to help with outreach. The invoices need to be turned in by the end of December in order to be reimbursed.

Outside of this grant opportunity, Avery said he continues to work with the Health Department through this health pandemic.

Avery continued, “We’ve been developing weekly incident action plans to make sure that we’re continuing to follow through with what we need to have in place in order for us to be able to receive the vaccine, and any other issues that may be popping up that we need to deal with.”

The commissioners thanked Avery for his work for the residents of Marshall County as Emergency Management Agency Director.
