An app that has information concerning emergency services to residents in Marshall County, road and weather closure updates, and the latest COVID-19 and immunization updates could be live in January.
Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers told the commissioners last week that he has been working with EMA Director Clyde Avery to create the initial content for the app. It can be expanded if necessary.
The $43,980 cost of the development and maintenance of the app for the first four years will be covered in part of a $103,000 Indiana Criminal Justice Institute CARES ACT grant. Byers previously explained that the remaining money from the grant will cover personal protective equipment for law enforcement officers throughout Marshall County and the jail. With this PPE supply, officers will have the ability to disinfect and sanitize squad cars that may have exposure to COVID-19 during a transport. Digital thermometers will also be available to any agency if needed.
EMA Director Clyde Avery previously said this will also assist the county with emergency compliance.
If everything is on schedule, the app could be available to download on January 15.
The commissioners agreed to sign a contract with OCV, LLC for the development and maintenance of the app. The company has similar applications for sheriff’s departments and law enforcement throughout the state.
The commissioners also approved the CARES ACT grant agreement with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
