Culver Town Council Discusses Supplying Funds for Pitch Night

The Culver Town Council members reviewed details of a business needs pitch night held in coordination with the Culver Redevelopment Commission.

Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist explained to the council that Matt Keedy from the Culver Visitor Center suggested the idea where small business owners in Culver could present needs for attracting visitors to the downtown area, with possible outdoor shopping, this winter.

Leist said, “It could be purchases, it could be leases with seasonal light displays, fire pits, warming stations, public art, seasonal outdoor market equipment or furniture – basically any other purchases designed to encourage people to visit commercial areas and shop local here in Culver.  It looks like it’s going to be some challenging months in January, February and March.”

Leist added that it would be a one-page application with the CRC providing $5,000 in funding with the same funding obligation from the Culver Town Council.

A review committee would include a Culver Town Council member, Culver Redevelopment Commission member, Discover Culver member, Culver Chamber of Commerce, Culver Town Town Manager Jonathan Leist, and a youth member from the Culver Community Middle/High School.

“We’re counting on residents and businesses to get creative and make up some good ideas!” commented Leist.

The council members approved a motion to provide $5,000 toward the pitch night with a vote of 4-1 with Bill Cleavenger opposed to the motion.

More information will be available soon, including the application.  The pitch night will be held January 19th at the Culver Beach Lodge.
