Culver Town Council Agrees to Extend Town Marshal’s Overtime Stipend

The Culver Town Council members considered an extension to the Town Marshal’s overtime stipend until the end of March during their most recent meeting.

The stipend was enacted in February of this year when two Culver police officers put in their notice of resignation.  One newly hired officer was expected to attend the Indiana Police Academy as required which left two officers to cover the town until two new officers could be hired.

At that time, the council temporarily changed the pay for the position of the town marshal to include a stipend and that was $41.21 per hour for all hours worked over 84 hours in a two-week pay period.  The change was extended through the end of the year.

During last week’s meeting, Town Manager Jonathan Leist asked the town council to extend that temporary stipend until March 30 so two newly hired officers can complete their police academy training.  A motion to that effect was approved with a unanimous vote.
