Marshall County Council Reviews Additional Appropriation Requests

The Marshall County Council members reviewed several requests for additional appropriations at their meeting last week.

Sheriff Matt Hassel requested $115,778.44 to upgrade the Computer Aided Dispatch, JMS and RMS reporting software at the Sheriff’s Department.  He previously explained that the current system is being updated through ONESolution.  The sheriff also asked for a transfer of $9,800 in order to purchase new computers to be compatible with the new reporting software.   Those requests were unanimously approved.

There was a request for $28,663.49 for furniture to outfit the fourth court in Marshall County Superior Court No. 3.  The council held discussion about how the budget for the court was cut by half during budget talks because the new court will not be in session until July 1, 2021.   The council members ultimately approved the appropriation with Council President Judy Stone opposed to the vote.

Marshall County Public Health Nurse Lisa Letsinger asked the council to purchase a new Dodge RAM Truck for the Health Department with an extended warranty for $31,004.  The money is in the budget for 2021, but officials are asking for the vehicle now.  However, the vehicle will not be delivered until February 2021.  The council members allowed the Health Department to order the vehicle, but they denied the additional appropriation request and asked the health officials to come back with the request next year.

The council also approved an additional appropriation request from representatives from the Marshall County Museum for $10,660.81 for a window restoration project, and another $7,000 to fund part-time clerical help through the rest of the year.
