Culver Town Council Considers Second Reading of Golf Cart Ordinance Amendment

The Culver Town Council members reviewed amendments made to the golf cart ordinance prior to a vote on second reading Tuesday night.

Another change that was requested by Councilman Bill Cleavenger was to change wording that would not allow any person to ride in a lap of another person while a golf cart is in operation.  The previous wording pertained to a child sitting in the lap of another person.  The change was accepted by the council members.

The council also agreed to change the registration fee for businesses to the same as the registration fee for a resident which would be $60.  Council President Ginny Bess Munroe presented a motion to lower the registration fee to $50 with a second by Sally Riccardi which was voted down by a vote of 3-2.

The second reading of the ordinance passed by a vote of 3-2 with Munroe and Riccardi opposed to the registration fee.  The ordinance will be considered on third reading at the council’s next meeting.

Other changes include the age, height and licensing of the driver of a golf cart; information concerning insurance; the need for a red or amber flashing light for a golf cart, the number of passengers allowed on the golf cart, and a $150 fee per violation.  If more than three violations have occurred, the golf cart registration will be revoked.

The council also passed the animal drawn vehicle ordinance on second reading with the same vote of 3-2.  It mimics the golf cart ordinance.
