The Marshall County Commissioners received only one bid for the construction of a county morgue and storage unit on the site of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Jail.
Jason Yoder with R. Yoder Construction in Nappanee walked in the bid Monday morning as the commissioners called the last call for bids. Yoder assured the commissioners that the company is aware of the timing of the project as it will be reimbursed with CARES Act funding which expires December 31, 2020.
Commission President Kevin Overmyer said the design for the structure was completed by Mark Barr from Barr Design Group in Goshen. It will be a 64×40 building with a storage component inside the structure measuring 24×40. The building will be large enough for an autopsy space, an area to secure decedents, a reception area for families, and office for the coroner.
The bid for the project was $271,530 which includes a small parking area.
The coroner will need to purchase office furniture and other supplies as needed when the facility is complete.
The commissioners agreed to review the bid from R. Yoder Construction. Upon successful review, Overmyer will sign a contract with the company to get started as soon as possible.
