Marshall County Commissioners Consider MCEDC Grant Application Request

The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation will be applying for a $250,000 grant that if awarded will help businesses with COVID-19 relief.

Jerry Chavez and Sean Surrisi approached the Marshall County Commissioners Monday on behalf of the Industry and Growth Committee through the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Communities Initiative to seek permission to apply for the grant.  The county will act as a pass-through entity with the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation as the sub-recipient who will be administering any grant funds to qualifying applicants.

The money would be used to offer businesses relief of up to $5,000 on a case-by-case basis.

Commission President Kevin Overmyer asked if this grant would interfere with the county’s CARES Act funding.  Chavez determined it would not.

The commissioners approved the request to apply for the funding.  The Marshall County Council approved the request last week assuming the funds would not interfere with the county’s CARES Act funding.  A public hearing will be held on the grant application on Sept. 8 with a resolution to be considered following that hearing.
