The Marshall County Commissioners reviewed a proposed Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Plymouth regarding a detour route during the Pioneer Drive construction project his summer.
Pioneer Drive will be closed from U.S. 30 to 7B road for a reconstruction project. A portion of Pioneer Drive in Plymouth will be widened to three lanes to accommodate an increase in truck traffic in that area. The Memorandum of Understanding outlines the use and care of the detour route on 7B Road between Pioneer Drive and Oak Road.
The commissioners asked about dust control in that area when the project commences. Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi noted that a contract with Walsh and Kelly includes an alternate bid for an asphalt fog for dust control during the project. City Engineer Rick Gaul explained during a recent Plymouth Redevelopment Commission meeting that Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters preferred the asphalt fog over water on the detour route on 7B Road.
The commissioners approved the Memorandum of Understanding with a unanimous vote. With their approval, the project can possibly start soon. The project will take two months to complete.
Following the project, Peters said he hopes to get an estimate from Walsh and Kelly crews to pave a portion of Pine Road from 7B to 7th Road to complement the Pioneer Drive project. After that, Peters said 7B Road will either be double chip and sealed or triple chip and sealed.
