Marshall County Council Reviews Tax Abatement Compliance Forms

The Marshall County Council members reviewed tax abatement compliance forms from three different businesses on Monday morning.

Typically, the council members visit the properties to learn more about the businesses and the number of employees at the facility.  Due to COVID-19, the council members haven’t been able to follow up as usual.  Additionally, Councilman Heath Thornton said that it seems a little unfair at this time to see if employee reports match the paperwork during this health pandemic.

Homestead Dairy and Houin Family Farm previously reported compliance while Faulkner’s Fabricating wasn’t quite up to compliance with employee count, but it was granted.

The compliance forms need to be submitted to the assessor’s office by May 15.

The council members voted to grant grace and approve all of the tax abatement compliance forms as presented.  The council members may follow up with the companies at a later time to discuss operations.
