The Culver Town Council members are preparing for the next phase of the Lake Max Walking and Biking Trail.
Phase two of the project within the town’s Stellar Communities Designation plan includes a one-mile extension of the trail from the Culver Park through the town. As part of the project, the town will need to acquire some land from property owners to be used for the trail.
Town Manager Jonathan Leist explained that The Troyer Group submitted a contract to help gather the right-of-way areas for this project. Leist stressed that the funding for the contract was included in the grant. If there are no issues with obtaining the land acquisitions, then funding should be on track. Town Attorney Jim Clevenger said if there are landowners who contest the right-of-way requests, then it could add expenses and be fairly costly.
Clevenger did recommend approving the contract to get the process started.
The second phase of the trail goes down Washington Street, Plymouth Street and South Main Street. Construction is expected to take place in 2021 and 2022.
The Culver Town Council members approved the contract for $37,640. Council President Ginny Bess Munroe recused herself from the vote while all of the other council members voted in favor of the contract.
