The Culver Beach Lodge will be ready for visitors once COVID-19 restrictions are eventually lifted in June.
The project was part of the Town of Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation projects after being awarded the designation in 2018. The renovation project started in the fall of 2019 and was substantially complete by the end of March as outlined in the grant through OCRA.
During the most recent meeting of the Culver Town Council, Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the council members that the remaining work deals with landscaping with the help of Highland Grove Landscaping & Farrm in Windermere, FL, which is currently being coordinated and should finish by the time the ribbon cutting ceremony is held in the last part of June. The date hasn’t been set for the ceremony that is expected to welcome visitors to the building as well as recognize the completion of the first phase of the Lake Max Walking and Biking Trail through the park.
Leist did mention that the project came in under budget by about $2,000 to $3,000. The town received a grant from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs for the project that was around $1 million.
The Cavalier Sports Park project is moving along. The buildings are up and the ground work will start soon. The Cavalier Sports Park project includes improvements to the soccer fields on the grounds of the Culver Community School Corporation, expanding the parking lots, moving the storm water retention pond to the east, building a restroom facility near the fields, adding a toddler park, and a walking trail on the perimeter of the park.
Funding for the Cavalier Sports Park project was released by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs that is estimated to cost $504,000. The town received a $500,000 grant to cover the cost of the project as part of Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation.
