Marshall County Health Officials Monitoring Long-Term Care Facilities, Jail

Marshall County Health officials are monitoring the health of patients in long-term care facilities and those incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail.

Health Administrator Ashley Garcia commented Monday morning that Health Officer Dr. Byron Holm has been making rounds and reviewing procedures.  Telemedicine is being used more widely and starting to adopt alternate practices.  Shift nurses are seeing the same patients so the potential spread of COVID-19 can be contained.

As for inmates in the Marshall County Jail, Garcia said measures are being taken to protect the jail staff, field officers, and inmates as safe as possible.  Garcia said she’s been communicating with Sheriff Matt Hassel who confirmed an emergency plan is in place if COVID-19 enters the jail.

Garcia said the health department has the support of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department in enforcing the orders as adopted.

She says while this is a hard time right now, it’s important to be diligent to do what residents can to stop the spread of the virus.

Health Officer Dr. Byron Holm thanks the community for doing what is being done so far.
