The Marshall County Building and Marshall County Courthouse and Annex remain closed to the public and many of the employees are working four hours to record funding receipts and then working remotely from home. This is in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
In a conference call with county officials on Thursday morning, Commission President Kevin Overmyer said the department heads have determined which workers are essential and non-essential. Several highway department workers with underlying health conditions are not working while most of them are responding to urgent needs in the county.
Overmyer also noted that the county is stable financially and can weather any revenue losses at this time. He applauded the efforts of the county council for being very diligent in watching the county’s finances and spending.
Additionally, Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery said he agrees that the county has responded well during this pandemic. He stressed that plans with local officials are often practiced for these types of events and the county is ready in case more specific response is required. He’s working closely with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and keeping up with what all agencies are doing to respond in-kind.
