Marshall County Commissioners Declare Public Health Emergency

The Marshall County Commissioners held a meeting Friday morning where they signed a resolution declaring a Public Health Emergency in name only effective immediately.

Commission President Kevin Overmyer said that an emergency exists in an attempt to protect the lives of residents in Marshall County.

The declaration also allows the county to document any expenses spent during the emergency to be reimbursed.

Marshall County Public Health Nurse Lisa Letsinger said there are no positive cases of COVID-19 in Marshall County as of Friday, March 20.  She urged county employees to be diligent in cleaning efforts and if anyone is sick that person is to go home.  Overmyer said if the employee refuses to leave due to illness, the department head has the authority to terminate that employee.  He stressed that public safety is key and the county has to be diligent in following state guidelines.

In addition, the Marshall County Courthouse will be closed to the public as of Monday, March 23.  Circuit Court Judge Curtis Palmer said all cases will be rescheduled beyond May 4.  This includes trials and civil cases.  Court employees will still be at work and can process emergency paperwork concerns.

Clerk Deb VanDeMark said any payments for child support or any payments to her office can be dropped off at the drop box on the outside of the building.

The commissioners also approved motions to allow the commission president and vice president to sign claim vouchers and the council president and vice president to approve any transfer and additional appropriation requests.

The entire meeting can be heard during this Sunday’s Maximum Impact program on MAX 98.3 FM at noon.
