Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night with a license agreement with NIPSCO regarding the upcoming Hoham Drive project.
Gaul explained that the agreement allows the city to enter onto NIPSCO’s property on Hoham Drive to do soil borings. The original plans for placement of a detention pond near the property changed to where it would be placed on NIPSCO’s property as the flow couldn’t work with the first set of plans.
He said City Attorney Sean Surrisi reviewed the agreement and had no issues with the wording in the license agreement. The agreement was unanimously approved by the board members.
In a special meeting of the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission on Tuesday, the commission members approved an INDOT contract for funding for the project. INDOT would provide 80 percent of the project cost with the City of Plymouth providing the rest of the funding for the project.
The project includes the widening of Hoham Drive from Michigan Street to a point 260 feet west of Western Avenue. This will allow for a 14-foot, two-way left turn west of Western Avenue and a dedicated eastbound right turn lane at Western Avenue. Curb, gutters and a sidewalk are a part of the project as well.
The purpose of this project is to help truck traffic and other vehicles maneuver along Hoham Drive and Western Avenue. The proposed construction will occur during an 8-month period beginning in 2022 with local access available, but thru-traffic will be restricted. Hoham Drive will reopen to the public in 2023, according to the preliminary timeline.
