Marshall County Treasurer Requests Extended Hours during Tax Season

Marshall County Treasurer Angie Birchmeier asked the county commissioners last week to extend the hours of her office to accommodate the collection of tax payments in May and November.

The hours will be extended for the spring tax collection on Friday, May 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, and Monday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The extended hours for the fall tax collection would be Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The commissioners approved the extended hours with a unanimous vote.  There will be a coordination with security during the extended time.

In addition, Birchmeier and Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer urge taxpayers to review their tax statements very carefully.

“There are new tax statements this year,” said Birchmeier.  “The State has mandated that all 92 counties have a uniform tax statement.  When you do receive your tax statement this year, please review it and make sure it is yours.”

Overmyer added, “Angie showed me one this morning and look at the back of it to make sure it’s the right county.”

Birchmeier continued, “Yes, because they will all look identical.”

Birchmeier said she’s working with L&D Mail Masters and MVP to prepare the county’s tax statements.  A copy of what the statement will look like will be available to residents once statements are approved by the Department of Local Government Finance.
