Work on a study concerning septic systems and the potential placement of conservancy districts in Marshall County is nearly done.
Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning that Ken Jones from Jones, Petrie and Rafinski has been collecting data and conducting analysis on areas throughout the county where properties rely on septic systems for sewage collection.
Clevenger said about 18 areas are being analyzed.
The study began last year after health officials determined that many septic systems through the county are failing and contamination is occurring. Information released during a work session in February of last year showed that in many cases, the older septic systems are closer than a 50 foot distance to a water well and effluence from a failed septic system is running toward the operation of the well and contaminating the water.
Funding of an engineering study was approved in mid-2019 which is nearing completion.
