Marshall County officials will be meeting with representatives from the Indiana Office of Court Services on March 4 where an assessment will be done on the county’s pretrial practices.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the Marshall County Commissioners this week that Marshall County Chief Probation Officer James Bendy has already given some information to the organization. Those practices and other information will be reviewed in order to see if there are additional measures that can be taken to better reduce the inmate population awaiting trial.
Clevenger noted that the final report will not include a recommendation on whether or not the county needs to expand the jail.
He added that all of the judicial members are ready for that meeting. He anticipates it to take a few hours.
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel told government leaders last week that the inmate population is the lowest it’s been in about a year.
