The Culver Town Council members took up conversation Tuesday night concerning the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation contract.
Town Manager Jonathan Leist explained that there is some language in the contract concerning auditing financial information that was questioned by the corporation’s attorney. Town Attorney Jim Clevenger noted he’d spoken with counsel and will be working to get through the issue.
The Culver Town Council members made the addition to the contract during their last meeting. In a work session on Feb. 11, they looked at the deliverables in an addendum as the Culver Redevelopment Commission’s (CRC) portion of the contract. The town’s contribution is $10,000. The CRC’s contribution would also be $10,000.
Council Vice President Bill Githens, who ran the meeting in the absence of President Ginny Bess Munroe, asked for the withdrawal of the town’s contribution of $10,000 stating that Culver shouldn’t have to pay the same amount as the City of Plymouth as they’re a much larger entity. A motion was make to that effect and approved.
MCEDC President and CEO Jerry Chavez commented that Plymouth contributes a much larger contribution because of their population while Culver pays the same as Bremen, Argos and other communities the same size. Lapaz contributes the least amount calculated by population, while Marshall County contributes the largest amount.
The CRC would still contribute $10,000.
The matter will be discussed further in a future meeting.
