Argos Town Council Considers Interconnection Standards Ordinance

The Argos Town Council members considered an ordinance amendment concerning interconnection standards.

Town Attorney Derek Jones explained to the town council that they adopted an ordinance last year that dealt with a schedule of rates and tariffs.  Jones said the purpose of the ordinance was to address the Argos Community Schools’ solar and mirco-turbine projects in order to save energy costs.

Jones said apparently the school board reviewed the ordinance and found it detrimental to make those operations work with a financial benefit.

With that, he said multiple meetings were held with the school board, the town’s electrical engineers and other officials and engineers to come to an agreement with what would be both financially beneficial to the town and to the school corporation.

Jones presented an amendment to the rates and tariffs where the school would be charged during peak hours at peak rates.  After a while, there would be a warning notice given to the school to utilize their energy saving devices.

The rules were suspended and the Argos Town Council approved the ordinance amendment on all three readings.
