The Indiana Supreme Court recently ruled that each court system needs to have a Courthouse Security Committee in addition to a County Safety Committee.
Marshall County Circuit Court Judge Curtis Palmer asked one of the commissioners on Monday morning to be a representative on that committee.
“They essentially dictate who has to be on that committee,” explained Judge Palmer. “A representative from the three courts is included, Building and Grounds, the sheriff, clerk, IT, a council member, and a commissioner.”
He stated that he has all of the other representatives in place, including EMA Director Clyde Avery.
Judge Palmer said two initial meetings will be held at the beginning of the year to develop an emergency disaster plan to be submitted to the Supreme Court, with an annual meeting to be scheduled thereafter.
“They want us to have some sort of plan in place if a tornado or fire takes out our two buildings over there. Where are we going to go? From that standpoint, it makes sense to have a commissioner on there because we’re going to be leasing space somewhere in the county and rearranging where the clerk and the courts go until we get these buildings back in operation [following a disaster].”
The commissioners agreed to appoint Stan Klotz to the committee, who also holds a seat on the County Safety Committee.
