The Marshall County Council members considered an ordinance amendment in a special meeting on Thursday morning concerning with the 2020 budget.
The net assessed value was amended for the county which will raise the levy to coincide with the 2020 budget.
Councilwoman Penny Lukenbill explained that when the budget is first calculated the Department of Local Government Finance recommends that the county uses 85% of the previous year’s actual net assessment to formulate a rough budget estimate when the process starts in June and July. It’s usually estimated high. The DLGF gave the county notice that the net assessed valuation is lower for the county so the tax rate will increase.
The revenue is expected to be the same.
The ordinance amendment was approved with a unanimous vote.
