Bremen Town Council Discusses Trash Contract

The Bremen Town Council members looked at renewing a trash contract during their meeting Monday afternoon.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy presented a contract renewal with the present company where a five-year term was included.  He explained that the rate would increase about $1.50 for the first year and then increase another $2.00 by the end of the contract.

Weldy noted that the town hasn’t seen an increase in trash pick up in about eight years.

Recycling would go to every other week which is what most other communities will have next year.

Weldy said other quotes for service were not available as the companies would not release that information outside of the regular bidding process.

The town council members voted to table a decision until the next meeting on Monday, Sept. 23.  If they decide to go through the bidding process, the current company’s prices would not be at the rate proposed in the contract renewal.

The town’s current contract does not expire until the end of the year.
