Bremen Officials Encourage Downtown Business Owners to Update Sewer Lines

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy encourages downtown business owners to update outdated sewer lines ahead of the downtown revitalization project set to begin July 1, 2020.

Weldy told the Bremen Town Council members Monday afternoon that a letter will be sent out to business owners to get the projects done at a reduced cost so the new road won’t have to be torn up later to repair any failed sewer lines.

Weldy said that some of those sewer lines are about 100 years old.

The plan is to lower the streets eight to ten inches and resurface State Road 106 from Montgomery Street to Washington Street. INDOT will provide funding for that part of the project that is estimated around $1.3 million. The Town of Bremen will replace the curbs and sidewalks and new lighting will be installed downtown.

Water, Storm Water and Street Superintendent Alex Mikel said there will be some work done before the project that includes the retirement of a water main from 1895.  That project may be done in March or April.
