A preliminary design is ready for the State Road 10 sidewalk project in Culver.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the Culver Town Council members recently that he walked through the design with engineers with the Indiana Department of Transportation.
“We’ve asked for the removal of those acceleration and deceleration lanes on State Road 10 for a parkway – like a four-to-six foot distance between the road and the sidewalk as much as possible,” explained Leist. “As part of that, we’re also looking for a 35 mph speed limit.”
Traffic counters were in the location so INDOT officials can review that information before approving the request to lower the speed limit.
According to the preliminary designs, the sidewalk will begin at Park ‘N Shop and go north to State Road 10 and then west to the Maple Ridge Villas property, however the budget may scale back the project further east than the Villas property.
This project is in the Town of Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation Program plans.
