Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger clarified wording on fines associated with ordinances in the Ordinance Violation Bureau.
He explained that two years ago the State said the county can adopt an Ordinance Violations Bureau to collect fines from tickets, which was enacted. A lot of the ordinances with fines were included in this action and Clevenger said he realized the statute limits fines up to $250.
This affects two ordinances talking about traveling during a declared emergency and no thru trucks. They both had fines over the statutory amount.
The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to modify the exhibit to the existing Ordinance Violations Bureau statute to cap fines collected through the Ordinance Violation Bureau at $250.
