Construction on the Cavalier Sports Park project in Culver will begin once funding is released from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist told town council members last week that OCRA officials were waiting for some additional paperwork from the Culver Community School Corporation. The Cavalier Sports Park will be built on the grounds of the Culver Community School Corporation. The paperwork outlines the school corporation’s agreement to keep the park an open park for the public for the next five years.
Leist said the paperwork was finalized and submitted to OCRA. He thought that since the paperwork was approved earlier that the town would have gotten the money by last Tuesday’s meeting, but they’re in a holding pattern.
The town was approved for a $500,000 OCRA grant to complete the project.
The Cavalier Sports Park project includes improvements to the soccer fields on the grounds of the Culver Community School Corporation, expanding the parking lots, moving the storm water retention pond to the east, building a restroom facility near the fields, adding a toddler park, an entry sign, and a walking trail on the perimeter of the park.
The council members awarded a bid of $504,000 to Thomas Excavating for the project.
