Plymouth Redevelopment Commission Revisits Fire Truck Purchase Request

Plymouth Fire Department Chief Rod Miller presented more information to the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission concerning the use of TIF funds to help purchase a new fire truck.

Miller explained to the commission members during their June meeting that he wants to replace a 27-year-old fire engine truck in the fleet to a newer model.  Miller commented that this request is usually supported by the Cumulative Capital Development Fund out of the city’s budget, but it won’t be available to support the purchase of a fire truck.

An inspection was done on the truck to be replaced.  That report indicated that there is over $10,000 in repairs needed.  He will address that expenditure out of the fire department’s budget.

This week, Miller noted that he and City Attorney Sean Surrisi explored different financing options for the new truck that would cost upwards of $700,000.  Surrisi said they could set aside some money in the next couple of years and then finance the truck through the Indiana Bond Bank with a program called Hoosier Equipment Leasing Program.  The Redevelopment Commission could work with US Bank in a lease-to-own situation where the city would put $200,000 in TIF funds as a down payment and finance the rest.

No decisions were made Tuesday night.  Miller wants to talk more about the inspection report and financing with Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver and bring back more information to the commission’s next meeting in August.
