Highway Department Install No Thru Trucks Signs on Certain County Roads

Marshall County Highway Department crews are installing No Thru Truck signs on a few county roads.

Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the commissioners this week that signs will be posted on Plymouth-Goshen Trail from U.S. 6 to the County Line, Fir Road from U.S. 30 to the City Limits, 8th Road from State Road 331 to the County Line, Dogwood Road from U.S. 6 to the County Line, and 3B Road from State Road 331 to the County Line.

Peters said most of the signs would be installed this week.

The commissioners adopted an ordinance to restrict truck traffic on county roads earlier this year.  It was determined that heavy, large commercial trucks cause excessive wear and tear on county roads not designed to accommodate that traffic.

The document states that no person shall operate a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of 26,000 pounds where a posted sign prohibits the action. The operator can access the road for a business purpose or as a resident living on that county road.  The restriction does not apply to school buses or fire trucks.

Those who violate the ordinance can expect a fine of $300.
