The property at 530 S. Ohio Street is now in the possession of the Town of Culver.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the Culver Town Council members last week that the closing is finalized. As part of a donation agreement with the seller, the donation of the town would require that the town only pay closing costs, title insurance and the appraisal of the building. That cost was around $11,000. Another condition during the closing was that the brewery equipment be removed and Leist said that work is being done.
Leist suggested hiring an architect or a property expert like
to review the conditions of the building and to provide a recommendation if remodeling the property would make sense for what the town could envision for the space, or if demolition would be in order.
Previous suggestions for the building included a community center, new town hall building or a start-up business. No concrete decisions have been made.
The Culver Redevelopment Commission will also step in and discuss a possible future for the property.
In the meantime, Culver Town Councilman Bill Githens made a motion to get a survey done to determine the boundaries of the parcel to better define the property, of which the rest of the council members approved in a vote on the motion.
