Argos Town Council Updated About Code Enforcement at Property Near US 31

Argos officials were recently updated on an ongoing code-enforcement effort that’s being made to rid the town of a reported eyesore.

During a February meeting, Town Council members permitted County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt to move forward with code enforcement at a Marshall Street property where more than 40 trailers were sitting.

He explained that since the area is zoned light-industrial (L-1), the property is not in compliance with the town’s zoning regulations by having that many trailers present.

He also expressed concern with the fact that the property is near US 31, so when people pass through Argos, they see all of those trailers.

When members met for their first meeting of the month, DeWitt shared that he and Town Attorney Derek Jones have been discussing the property. He added that he’s also been able to correspond with the owner of the trailers about removing them.

He informed members while the trailers cannot be moved immediately, efforts are apparently being made to get them out of the area.

The individual told Dewitt that he’s been negotiating with movers. He explained that it will be an 800 mile run from Argos to where the trailers are being transported in Delaware.

The owner explained that a total of four units will be moved and it will take 3-4 days to transport one unit so the schedule of when they’ll all be gone depends on the availability of trucks.

He said while he can’t control the availability of the trucks, he will keep in contact with DeWitt about the progress.
