Marshall County Council members are not quite ready to approve job descriptions provided by Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele. The county was given a few of the job descriptions in April, but all of the documents for all positions within the county were received in October.
Councilman Jon Van Vactor, who is part of a committee overseeing the review of the job descriptions, said there are office holders that haven’t had a chance to review the documents. There are some questions about the five First Deputies excluded from overtime and it’s not known if that’s quite the direction the county wants. Van Vactor recommended tabling discussion on the job descriptions so the committee can talk with the office holders to produce a firm recommendation for the council.
He noted that a job description for a highway superintendent should be completed before they are all approved.
It was also recommended that they look at the salary ordinance and review what the county can afford as outlined in potential salary ranges provided by Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele. Van Vactor said a job description should be included with every position in the salary ordinance.
Councilwoman Penny Lukenbill said there are other issues that should be gone over with Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele representatives such as Chief Deputies being paid 80 percent of the elected official. She noted that it’s an ongoing project and there’s no need to rush to make a decision.
The council members agreed to wait to see what recommendations are given to them before approving any job descriptions.
