Culver Town Council Considers Additional Reading on Candidate Selection Ordinance

The Culver Town Council members considered the third reading of an ordinance that would move the town council and clerk-treasurer selection to the May Primary Election. From there, the candidates would move to the November General Election ballot.

The change would go into effect in 2019, provided an ordinance to the effect is filed with the Marshall County Clerk’s Office before Jan. 1, 2019. The three open council seats would be included on the May Primary Election ballot next year as well as the clerk-treasurer.

Previously, the candidates are chosen by party by the town convention method.

The council members adopted the ordinance by unanimously approving the third reading Tuesday night. Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim noted that she will file the ordinance with the Marshall County Clerk’s Office as soon as possible.

With the adoption of the ordinance, no change to the method of voting can be made for the next 12 years.
