Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner informed the commissioners last week that work is being done to prepare a grant application to get funds for an engineering study to restore the Marshall County Courthouse Tower.
The engineering study would include the exterior of the building and the tower restoration design. The grant would be for $50,000 from the Historic Preservation Fund with a 50 percent match provided by the county. The deadline to submit the grant is Friday, Oct. 5 and the award announcement will be on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019. The construction would also be considered under another grant. It is anticipated to be completed by 2021/2022 which is the 150th anniversary of the tower completion.
The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to allow the committee to move forward in applying for the grant.
