The Culver Town Council members will weigh in on the possibility of being a part of the Primary Election instead of being chosen by town convention.
Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe said the low voter turnout at the recent town convention was a disappointment. The town convention was held to select two Republican candidates for the November General Election out of the four candidates who filed for the two open seats. Only 44 Republican voters were present to cast votes.
Munroe said it was the lowest voter turnout she has seen in the past four town conventions she’s witnessed.
She commented that it wasn’t properly advertised.
If a change to a Primary Election gathers favorable remarks, the council members would have to approve that change in an ordinance. Public hearings would also be held to gather comments from residents. An ordinance would need to be enacted and filed prior to Jan. 1 to be included on the Primary Election ballot in May.
The issue will be discussed during tomorrow night’s Culver Town Council meeting that will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Culver Town Hall.
