The Culver Town Council members will meet tonight where they will discuss an ordinance to determine the process of nominating candidates for town office.
The council members are looking to let the voters choose council seats and the clerk-treasurer’s position during the May Primary Election instead of holding a town convention to determine the party’s candidates.
Council President Ginny Bess Munroe previously stated in a public meeting that the recent Republican Town Convention was disappointing as only 44 voters turned out to select two Republican candidates for the November General Election out of the four candidates who filed for the two open seats.
The first reading of an ordinance will be considered during tonight’s meeting with a public hearing on the matter planned for Tuesday, Oct. 9. If ultimately approved, the ordinance would need to be filed by Jan. 1 for consideration for the May Primary Election in 2019.
In other business tonight, the council members till hold a public hearing and the first reading of an ordinance that pertains to the 2019 budget. A park pier contract will be reviewed as well as information from the Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Designation Initiative in addition to the town’s Stellar Communities Designation Program projects.
Department heads and members from various commissions and boards will provide updates to the town council.
The Culver Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. ET tonight at the Culver Town Hall at 200 E. Washington Street following a work session at 5:30 p.m. ET on possible fundraising efforts for a new aerial fire truck for the Culver-Union Township Fire Department.
